Father Melo Moreno is a Jesuit priest who operates Radio Progreso in El Progreso, Honduras. It was one of the few media outlets covering the coup in Honduras that was not controlled by the coup regime or the oligarchy. Since the coup, Radio Progreso has been threatened and raided by military troops. It was repeatedly blocked from broadcasting.
Fr. Melo is a native Honduran born in El Progresso. He was ordained as a Jesuit priest in 1989, the year 6 Jesuit priests were killed in El Salvador. Fr. Melo is an important voice from Honduras in understanding issues related to the coup, the dozens of assassinations of unarmed, non-violent coup resisters by police, military and paramilitary under the coup regime.
